So what is the difference between 2pac and standard paints? Most paints and clear finishes are solvent based. The solvents (thinners) are what enable the finish to be applied with spraying equipment. When they evaporate, the finish hardens and sticks to the surface. This is where 2pac finishes work a little differently.
A “2pac finish” comprises two containers of liquids:
One contains a mix of acrylic paint and melamine; the other contains a hardener, Poly-isocyanate Resin.
When the two packs are combined, a chemical reaction occurs that results in the mix hardening. Because only a small amount of solvent is used, almost none of the mix is lost through evaporation and as a result we are able to create a thicker, harder, more luxurious finish. Consequently, 2-pac takes a little more time and care to perfect but the end result is well worth the wait.
The two main distinctions between 2pac and standard paints are this:
2pac finishes are completely safe after they dry, however applying them requires adequate time, specialised equipment and expertise. As the paint chemicals must be mixed according to factors such as temperature and humidity, achieving the correct colour and viscosity can be quite difficult and when mixed or applied incorrectly, can be extremely dangerous with the potential for liquids to combust. This is why 2pac finishes are so difficult to master and are slightly more expensive than other paints.
Luckily SPGC have a long track record for the highest quality finishes with a look and feel that far exceeds that of other coating methods.
